Reflections on Media Studies.

As I thoroughly enjoyed Media Studies at A-level, I decided that it would be an interesting and hopefully an enjoyable path to follow at university. Initially I wanted to take a course in Drama and English, however this changed when I realised Media was more appealing. The areas of particular interest to me at A-level were film, directing and editing. The course at UWIC appealed to me even though I was disappointed that there would not be any practical work involved. As I took a gap year and deferred my entry, I am slightly anxious to start education again and remain focused throughout the first year. However, I am keen to put in 100% effort in order to enjoy and benefit from the course and university life.

For a long time I have had a keen interest within the performing/creative subjects. For example drama and performing arts are something I thoroughly enjoy and I was always involved in productions and theatre in and out of school. I believe this is where my interest in the media began and evolved.

I don’t have a path planned out for the future in terms of the job I see myself doing, I have never known the exact route I wish to take and ultimately pursue a career in. Nevertheless I want to explore the opportunities that the course will provide and further my experience within the field of film, television and other media aspects. For a long time I have always had a curiosity to travel the world and explore different countries and cultures. When I went travelling earlier this year it was an amazing experience that I will never forget. This made me realise that after university I want to keep travelling and gain valuable work experience in different places in and outside of England.
